TVNZ On Demand, New Zealand’s largest free-to-air catch-up television service, has finally made their first set-top-box appearance via the PlayStation gaming consoles, allowing an easy way to watch the broadcaster’s content on the big screen.
Lightbox, the New Zealand based online television streaming service bravely taking on the big boys has just launched their own PlayStation 4 app, allowing console owners big-screen access to Lightbox’s range of content for the first time.
Who would have thought the best commercial catch-up service from Australasia would in fact not come from Australia itself, but their smaller and somewhat greener neighbour New Zealand. Don’t be discouraged by the vast distances and tiny population, TVNZ has pulled off a fine on-demand service here which may raise an intrigued eyebrow or two from more than just the expat community.

Big things have been happening in little New Zealand these last weeks on the iOS front. Until recently, the land of sheep and a rather pleasant Sauvignon Blanc or two have been iOS free for catch-up television, citing Flash as a reason to deny support. This is no longer the case with both major national networks opening up their streaming services to iPads, iPhones and iPod touches.
